Planning permission for a 180-room hotel in Kingston town centre has been granted subject to legal agreements. Developer NHP Leisure has earmaked Irish group Moran Hotels to operate the property
18.05.08 - Trocadero gets green light
Westminster Council has given consent to Criterion Capital's revised plans to convert the Trocadero into a mixed-use leisure and residential scheme. The hotel element has now been reduced to 476 rooms
20.04.08 - Cafe Royal development
Israeli developer Alrov has agreed to develop the Cafe Royal into a 160-room luxury hotel. The Cafe Royal forms part of the wider Quadrant scheme at the southern end of Regent Street that the Crown Estate is redeveloping
08.04.08 - Premier Inn expansion
Whitbread have announced plans to add 1,200 rooms to its Premier Inn portfolio across London. Three existing hotels are being acquired from the Real Hotel Company, while a further three properties are to be developed at Waterloo, Ealing and Old Street for completion in 2011
19.03.08 - Gillette Building gets go-ahead
Planning consent to turn the Gillette building in West London into a luxury 500-room hotel has been granted. The building was acquired by the Bonnington Group in 2005
27.02.08 - Oval Plan may face further setback
Surrey Cricket Club's plans to redevelop the Oval, which includes a 170 room hotel, is likely to face further delays following reports that the Health & Safety Executive is likely to appeal against the decision allowing the development. The HSE are concerned about the impact of any explosion from a nearby gas storage facility
10.02.08 - IHI buys Metropole
International Hotel Investments have purchased the Metropole Building in Whitehall with a view to developing a 280-room luxury hotel as part of a mixed-use development. IHI operates 14 luxury hotels across Europe under the Corinthia Hotels International brand
28.1.08 - Hilton Heathrow T5
Hilton have signed a franchise deal with Shiva Hotels to open a 350-room property at Heathrow T5. Located near Terminal 5 at Poyle, the hotel is scheduled to open in 2010
07.12.07 - Another Travelodge gets the go-ahead
Subject to legal agreements, Travelodge have gained planning permission to develop a c300-room property at St George's House near Waterloo Station. The hotel will form part of a wider mixed-use scheme
13.11.07 - Trocadero plans deferred
Major redevelopment plans for the Trocadero Centre, which include provison for a 500-room Ibis Hotel, have been deferred by Westminster Council in order for fresh designs to be submitted
24.10.07 - Oval plans refused
Plans by Surrey Cricket Club to build a hotel and new stand at the Oval have been refused by Lambeth Council following safety objections. New plans are now likely to be submitted

According to MWB's latest operating review, the group is close to securing a 45-room development for Hotel du Vin within the West End, and a second 180-room site in London for Malmaison

Southwark Council
has given its backing in principle to the 52-storey Beetham Tower development at Blackfriars. The tower is likely to contain a 260-room hotel that Jumeirah Hotels has signed-up to operate. Although the development has still to gain final permission, it could be built by 2012

Crown Estates has announced plans to sell the Metropole Building in Whitehall for redevelopment as a high-quality hotel. Standing vacant since 2004, the Metropole was originally built as a hotel in the 1880s. It occupiesa prime site on Northumberland Avenue with 177,000 sq ft for hotel use
25.5.07 - Baptist Society HQ hotel
Kingsgate London Properties has announced plans to turn the former Baptist Society headquarters in Holborn into a 65-room luxury hotel. Work is scheduled to start on the Grade II-listed building in 2007, and take 12 months to complete
