2012 Insights & Strategies for the tourism industry
21 June 2006
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Visit London and VisitBritain held a national forum on 21 June to discuss the tourism opportunities & strategies surrounding the 2012 Olympic Games & Paralympic Games.
DCMS, VisitBritain & Visit London will shortly launch a wide-ranging consultation of the entire UK tourism sector on the terms of an ambitious Tourism 2012 Strategy. As you would expect, the key drivers for this exercise are the 2012 Games, which are widely recognised as holding enormous potential for both London & Britain’s long-term visitor economies.
The objectives of the event were as follows:
• To sketch out a combined vision of how British tourism might develop over the next decade
• To share our learnings about the tourism opportunities presented by the Olympic Games & Paralympic Games
• To outline the particular vision & action plan for London & opportunities for the rest of the UK
• To gather input from key industry stakeholders
The speakers included, among others, DCMS, plus the CEOs of Visit London and VisitBritain. The audience - expected to number several hundred - will include industry trade associations and professional bodies, DCMS agencies from the sports, arts & culture sectors, regional tourism delivery partners and commercial organisations. The event will be facilitated by BBC sports presenter Rob Bonnet.
