London’s top tourism organisations and attractions fought off stiff competition to reach the shortlist of the prestigious Visit London Awards 2006, sponsored by Eurostar, announced today (see below).

The annual awards highlight the best of the capital, including accommodation, attractions, entertainment and cultural events. Those working behind the scenes have their share of the limelight, with awards covering excellence in areas such as customer service and marketing.

Judged by a range of senior industry experts, nominees are required to demonstrate high standards in their arena and show commitment towards areas such as sustainability, accessibility, training and development, and investment in the local community.

James Bidwell, chief executive of Visit London said: “The Awards provide a platform to showcase the very best that the city has to offer, from unsung heroes to popular destinations. This year’s shortlist demonstrates just this breadth, and I congratulate all the businesses who have made it through to the finals. It’s their unwavering commitment to quality and innovation that ensures London remains the world’s top city break destination.”

Eurostar is headline sponsor for the Awards, ensuring the 2006 Awards ceremony, on the 23 November, will be a showstopper. Simon Montague, Director of Communications, Eurostar said: “Eurostar is delighted to sponsor the Visit London Awards 2006.  The shortlist for this year’s Awards shows that London is packed with great tourist and business venues right across the city.  These top quality attractions are encouraging more business and leisure travellers from the Continent to jump onto Eurostar’s high-speed trains to visit this wonderful city.”

You can now buy your tickets to the gala event on the evening of 23 November at the legendary Roundhouse in Chalk Farm, which has played host to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd, and more recently, the RSC and De La Guarda. Call 020 7234 5859 or visit visitlondon.com/awards.
