London's tourist industry celebrated last night as the best of the capital's visitor attractions were recognised at The Enjoy England Awards for Excellence.
The Emirates Stadium and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) picked up Gold awards for Business Tourism and Large Visitor Attraction of the Year respectively. London's hotels were also recognised as The Dorchester and the London Marriott West India Quay both received Silver awards.
The annual awards, organised by VisitBritain, celebrate the best of British tourism.
Visit London Chief Executive, James Bidwell, said:
"I congratulate the winning attractions who are truly flying the flag for London as a top city destination. I'm delighted to see these organisations receive recognition for all their hard work and dedication. To win against such tough competition is testament to London's enduring tourism offer. The capital plays a vital role in the UK's tourism industry with almost 50% of all overseas visitors to the UK coming to London and a tourism industry worth £15bn."
The Emirates Stadium, Business Tourism Award winner, has become one of the most spectacular and successful sports stadiums in the world since it opened in 2006. It has already hosted over 1,000 events for business from around the capital and is home to Arsenal Football Club.
The V&A's Gold award for Largest Visitor Attraction recognises its success in appealing to a wide range of visitors. In the last year, the museum has hosted temporary exhibitions including Kylie – The Exhibition, displaying pop star Kylie Minogue's famous wardrobe; Surrealism and Design, focusing on the creation of surreal objects; and currently; China Design Now. This is in addition to its vast permanent collection.
